When we were doing all of our shopping getting ready for Mason, there were many things I just couldn't live without. I made sure we had all of the cool things like the ultimate crib sheets, the diaper champ, the wipe warmer, etc. etc. The one thing that I didn't think was necessary is the item that I now cannot even imagine not having. That item is the video monitor with the 7 inch screen. We had purchased a regular set of audio monitors and used them for the first three months after Mason was born. They started having a lot of static in them and feedback that was quite annoying so we took them back. A friend of ours had recommended getting the video monitors and I am glad I did. See, I was such a freak about whether Mason was breathing and was ok. Every mother's fear, for sure. With this video monitor, I was able to see AND hear him. I no longer had to run upstairs to make sure he was alright. This really helped me relax a little and not feel like I had to run upstairs every time I heard a peep out of him. Of course I didn't have to run upstairs at every peep but I found myself doing it more often than I care to admit now.
Tonight it took Mason a little longer than normal to go to sleep so I enjoyed 15 minutes or so of watching him play in his crib. He played with each of his stuffed animals, crawled from one end of the crib to the other, pulled the breathable bumpers down several times, stuck his arms in and out of the crib, stood up and looked around his room and then finally laid down and stayed still long enough to fall asleep. I love watching him. He has no idea that we can see him which makes it even better.
Not sure why I felt the need to write about my video monitor but I did!
Until next time.....

Funny, I was just thinking today how it would be cool to have a video monitor now that Henry will play in his room for periods of time. (and because we are thinking about transitioning him to a toddler bed, I wanna know what the heck he may be getting into!)
what brand are you using?
Hey Lisa. The brand that we have is Summer Infant. Ours has a 7in monitor, a handheld and one camera. I have found so many things that I really could have lived without but this is the one thing that I would not know how to function without. If it died tomorrow I would go buy another immediately. They are awesome!
Henry is adorable. Your blog is awesome. I love the way you are writing it.
We have one too. A friend said it's so worth it, a must have and I agree. I LOVED being able to see him as much as hear him. Wouldn't trade it for the world. My screen isn't that big, but it works beautifully. Andy says that we're keeping it in his room forever, we'll use it as a spy cam somehow when he's a teenager ;) It was originally beside his bed and sort of "looking down". When he started standing and exploring it wasn't long before he started grabbing it when he got up and "making home movies" for us. It was HILARIOUS to watch him grab the camera and move it around, stare into it up close and such. Of course after a week or so he got crazy with it and we moved it across the room so that he wouldn't break it with his crazies. It's worth it's weight in gold no doubt.
And Lisa I think it's a great idea for a toddler too. I want to see what he's doing just as bad when we make that toddler bed move as I have as he was a baby in a crib!!
