Wordless Wednesday

Not Enough Time

Sorry I haven't kept up with the non-challenge blogging. I have essentially been a single parent for the past month. Dawn's dad is very sick and she has had to stay with him evenings and weekends lately so it has been me and Mason. While it has been fabulous spending time with him by myself, I haven't had time to do much of anything else so the blogging has to wait. Hopefully one day, I'll get back to some of the topics. If not, oh well.

Until next time......

Almost Caught Up But......

I am almost caught up with the 30 day non-challenge blog posting but I am out of time for the evening. I'll post a few more days soon. Hope you have enjoyed them so far.

Until next time......

Day 4 - Surprise about Parenthood

I guess my biggest surprise was how emotional I was the first couple of months after giving birth. I have always been one to maintain good control over my emotions but I was a basket case the first three months of Mason's life. I know that was mainly due to my hormones being really out of wack and sleep deprivation. Yeah, that was another surprise that I'll talk abut next. I was fortunate enough to stay home with Mason for 12 weeks before having to return to work. While I absolutely loved that time with him, I am sure being home all day added to my emotional roller coaster. I cried every day. Some days, I think I cried most of the day. I went to the doctor thinking I had postpartum depression but she felt I was such a wreck due to the lack of sleep that I was experiencing.

Sleep deprivation was very surprising to me and was something that I was totally not prepared for! I have never been a great sleeper. Pre-Mason, I would wake up off and on throughout the night so thought that I was somewhat prepared! NOT!! I was in no way prepared and had no idea I would have a non-sleeping newborn. Yep, that's right Mason didn't sleep longer than 1.5 hours at a time until he was 3 months old and then only slept 3-4 hour stretches until he was 6 months old. With that type of sleeping pattern and my lack of ability to fall asleep quickly, I got very little sleep for days at a time. I can vaguely recall a couple of weeks where if I slept 24 hours in a week, I considered that a good week!

Another surpise is how quickly time flies by when you have a child. My little one will be 2 years old in a couple of months and it seems like yesterday that I was sitting in this same recliner holding an infant. Oh how I wish time would slow down drastically and let me continue holding on to my baby. He will be grown before I know it and that scares me to death! I already miss him as an infant and know too soon I will be missing him as a toddler!

I love being a mom and while there have been some challenging times over the past two years, I wouldn't change a thing.

Until next time......

Day 3 - Guilty Pleasures

I would have to say that my guilty pleasures are all food/beverage related. I love to eat hence the reason that I could stand to lose 25 pounds about now! Chocolate of any kind is my friend. My favorite candy, Cadbury Mini Eggs, is only available at Easter. Thank goodness cause I love to eat these things. I bought several of these 40oz bags from Sams between March and April and ate the majority of them by myself. Dawn ate her fair share and Mason ate a few too but I consumed the rest!

One of my other guilty pleasures is hot wings. I love me some hot wings. The hotter the better in my opinion. And nothing goes better with wings than a good cold beer. Yep, I love beer too. I tend to drink way more in the summer time than I do any other time and well that is because I enjoy frosty cold beers after spending many hours outside doing yard work!

While there are other guilty pleasures, I'll stick to the ones that are food/beverage related and save the others for another post another day.

Until next time......

Day 2 - Your high school self

Describe your high school self. What extracurricular activities, if any, did you participate in during high school.

I went to a very small private school called Mims Academy. It was about 30 minutes from my house but close to my mom's job. The public schools around our house were very poor performing schools so my parents made the investment to send me and my 3 siblings to a private school hoping for a quality education for all of us. As I stated, the school was fairly small. My class was a whopping size of 30 students and that was the largest class in the school for the most part. I was an A-B student for most of high school. Of course I had an occasional C but for very rarely were my grades ever much lower. I had to maintain a certain grade point average to play sports so did what I had to do to always be eligible for sports.

Since I was an athlete, I was pretty much involved with the "in" crowd. I played basketball and softball and was a manager for the boys football team. I was an average basketball player and a better than average softall player. Softball was my main sport and I absolutely loved playing. I played on my high school softball team and on a women's traveling team during the summers. Once I went to college, I played on a travelng women's team and a co-ed team for many years. I chose not to play college softball for many reasons I now regret but oh well.

I had three best friends in high school. We did everything together during those wonderful years. Unfortunately we all went our seperate ways after high school. Other than playing sports and hanging with my 3 best friends, there wasn't much else to high school for me so I'll spare you the rest of the details!

Until next time......

Day 1 - Space Where You Normally Blog

I usually do all of my blogging while sitting in my comfy recliner. My blogging is usually done late in the evening after Mason has gone to bed and all of my wifely duties are done. Most often it is while I am also trying to watch TV to keep up with all of the DVR'd shows that Dawn manages to watch on a weekly basis. I can tell you the names of the shows but not what any of them are about as I rarely am able to watch and type at the same time. :-)

Until next time......
