Vacation in Florida

We just got back from our first vacation as a family of three. We went to Palm Beach Shores, Florida for a week. Not as relaxing as I had hoped but we had a great time together. We spent a couple days on the beach, a couple of days by the pool and a couple days hanging out at other places enjoying the water. Mason loves the water. He was not afraid of the ocean at all. He actually got frustrated with us because he wanted us to let him go but for obvious reasons we could not. He enjoyed the waves splashing on him and playing in the sand. Unfortunately the water was really rough due to a tropical storm brewing out in the Atlantic so that made things a bit rougher than we had expected.

My brother Jason came down and spent several days with us. It was great seeing him and having Mason be able to spend some time with him. Living 12 hours from him makes it difficult to spend time with him on a regular basis. While he was visiting we took a water taxi over to Peanut Island and did some exploring around. Peanut Island is the home of President Kennedy’s bunker that was built in the 60’s during the Cuban Missile Crisis. There was a swimming area that had 4 manatees in it and you could swim with them. We saw them on several occasions but did not swim as it was a deeper area and that was not an option with Mason! Snorkeling was supposed to be good on the island as well but we did not have our snorkeling gear so had to pass on that as well. While we were there, one of the lifeguards informed us of a cool park that he said would be perfect area for us to be with Mason. We went and it was perfect. It was on the sound side and under a very large bridge which provided tons of shade and still had beach areas to get plenty of sun. The water was crystal blue and very calm. We were able to stay in the water with Mason and enjoy it without being slammed in every direction with crashing waves! The beach area was not as sandy as the ocean side and was great for Mason to crawl around on! Since the water was so calm and clear, snorkeling was great as well. There were tons of beautiful fish to see. This was the greatest spot and I wished we had found it the first part of the week!

Overall our vacation was a good one. We look forward to the many vacations and opportunities that we will have traveling together as a family over the next many years!

Until next time…

Kim
